Enrollment:  It is very important to reserve your space for every training you plan to attend.  Reserving your space ensures that enough training materials and space will be available for all attendees.  It will also ensure that you will be contacted if a training is postponed or cancelled, or if the location or time has been changed.  

New Training Policy - Effective 2-05-10:  If a training is full and you have not officially enrolled in the class, you may arrive at the training and patiently wait to find out if you can fill the spot of a "no show."  If all official enrollees show up, it is possible that you will be turned away and will NOT be able to attend the training.  This is primarily due to space and resource limitations.  Please do not advise staff or foster parents to "just show up," unless you also inform them of this new policy.

Ethics, Boundaries & Professionalism

Description: This deals with specifically identifying and setting appropriate boundaries and recognizing and adopting a professional demeanor in the work place.  This training will also discuss aspects related to being more cultural aware and sensitive to our co-workers and clients we serve.

How to Use Your Guardian Insurance
and Northest Plan Services "Deductible Reimbursement"

Description: This training will answer some of the most common questions staff have regarding our insurance plan, such as: How to use the “deductible reimbursement,” deductibles, how much “deductible reimbursement” pays, sending EOB’s to Northwest; Medco Prescription program, prescription by mail vs. prescriptions at pharmacies; Deductibles for prescriptions through Medco; In network vs. out of network deductibles, when insurance pays 100% & when it does not; Pre-authorizations when to call; Lab One card use and outpatient pavilion (blood work, ultra sounds); How to use insurance when going to the Emergency Room; Remind staff of Work-life Matters and Nurse Line services; Dependent eligibility; Domestic Partnership criteria; Process of open enrollment and enrollment dates, what is a qualifying event, etc. 

Please bring your own list of questions! If time permits, you will have the opportunity to discuss your questions privately with Greg and Karen.

Cultural Compentency Training

Description: Cultural Competence refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures. Cultural competence comprises four components: (a) awareness of one's own cultural worldview, (b) attitude towards cultural differences, (c) knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews, and (d) cross-cultural skills. Developing cultural competence results in an ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures. 

This training uses many examples, stories and group exercises to assist participants to learn and understand the complexities of this topic, especially in regards to the workplace. 

This training is intended for all RCS staff and foster parents.  It is REQUIRED that all staff and foster parents attend this training annually.  Each class is limited to 30 participants.

Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) -
Residential Facility Version

Description: This training describes the reasoning for using strength-based approaches when interacting with children displaying challenging behaviors. Participants will learn to use the tools available.  This training is for program TRCs, as well as the CTS providers who support the program.

CPR & First Aid

Description: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a procedure to support and maintain breathing and circulation for a person who has stopped breathing (respiratory arrest) and/or whose heart has stopped (cardiac arrest). First Aid is emergency aid or treatment given to someone injured, suddenly ill, etc., before regular medical services arrive or can be reached.

Note: These training hours do NOT count toward annual training hours.

*CPR certification is valid for 1 or 2 years (depending on the course taken).
*First Aid certification is valid for 2 years.

Harassment Prevention Training

Description:  Starting in 2010, all RCS non-supervisory employees will be required to attend an annual Sexual Harassment training.  This training will focus on appropriate steps and measures to take to avoid and deal with harassment in the workplace.  This training will also review Sexual Harassment policies and procedures.

Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS)

Description: Collaborative Problem Solving is an evidence-based practice that provides an approach for dealing with oppositional-defiant children and youth that avoids power struggles and conflict escalation.

Collaborative Problem Solving also helps children and youth learn how to problem solve and effectively and appropriately communicate their wants and needs without the use of manipulation and intimidation.

Water Safety Certification

Description: Playing in the water can be fun, whether it be swimming, boating or diving. It can also be dangerous, especially for children. This training instructs participants on how to be safe and take precautions, in order to prevent injuries or drownings.

Recommended for: All Staff.
